Hi, I’m Dawoud Kodi. I was born in Sudan in 1993, the sixth child in a family of eight. One morning, in the early year of 2000, when I was only six, Mom woke me up dramatically and dressed me up quickly ,while all my other siblings were asleep. I asked her where I was going and all she said was “your going with your dad”. Being only six years old, I was clueless to what was happening at that moment.
It took us three weeks to reach Egypt after our sudden departure from Sudan. We stayed one whole year until my family reunited with Dad and I again.
Eventually my family settled in Australia in 2004—the place which I call home today, despite my Sudanese cultural background.
